Meera Ji’s bhajan तुम भये तरुवर, मैं भयी पंखिया*.. beautifully illustrate how both soul and God are one in love as the existence is one ( ‘सर्वं खल्विदं ब्रह्मम्’ – “सब ब्रह्म ही है” छान्दोग्य उपनिषद ३/१४/१- सामवेद ), yet both have their own distinct eternal personalities ( ‘नासतो विद्यते भावो नाभावो विद्यते सतः।’. . “किसी नित्य सत्ता का अभाव नहीं हो सकता.. जो आज है, वो कल भी था और कल भी रहेगा।” भगवद्गीता 2.16). One exist for the pleasure of other and this giving of happiness to Other is True Love.
One can love God in moods (भाव) of one’s master, friend, child, beloved..like हनुमान जी, श्रीदामा/सुदामा (गोप, ग्वाल-बाल), नंद/यशोदा, राधा जी/गोपी respectively .. the later contain all the preceding moods and leads to highest devotional divine bliss.. ( मन तेरो साचों यार ब्रजराज कुमार, तेरो सोई स्वामी, सोई सखा, सूत, भरतार ~ प्रेम रस मदिरा).
The beauty and influence of Divine Love (आह्लादिनी शक्ति) is such that it makes even God forgets his authoritative position in reality (so much so that He does not remember that ‘he’ is God any more) and He seeks to love you and be loved like nobody.
A True Beloved (प्रेमास्पद) is one who doesn’t want anything from you and only want your happiness, one who is all complete and selfless, only God qualifies on that criteria. *When one starts to love him, one also starts to become like him, selfless, complete and divine, wanting only others happiness (निष्काम प्रेम).
* जो तुम तोड़ो पिया, मैं नाही तोडू रे।
तोरी प्रीत तोड़ी कृष्णा, कौन संग जोडू॥
तुम भये तरुवर, मैं भयी पंखिया।
तुम भये सरोवर, मैं भयी मछिया॥
तुम भये गिरिवर, मैं भयी चारा।
तुम भये चंदा मैं भयी चकोरा॥
तुम भये मोती प्रभु जी, हम भये धागा।
तुम भये सोना, हम भये सुहागा॥
बाई मीरा के प्रभु बृज के बासी।
तुम मेरे ठाकुर, मई तेरी दासी॥
